Pinky gets another coon! While out for a walk-about with Pinky I was almost annoyed when she wanted to head off the trail.
It was pretty obvious she could smell something on the wind and dragged me through about a hundred yards of woods.
It seemed like a half-mile by the time we came to a familiar culvert. She had found a raccoon in that same culvert a year or so ago and now she really wanted "in!" Something was in there for sure!
Well, I unsnapped the lead and started digging for my phone (to use its camera) while she went into the culvert.
But I didn't get the phone out fast enough! The action spilled out (almost on my feet) just seconds after turning her loose!
She dragged a very angry raccoon out into the open and got to work sorting things out.
This coon wasn't quite as big as the others but he was the baddest coon we've seen in a long time!
They were swopping "holds" and wrasslin' all over the forest floor, generally headed down-hill, as such action always does.
(As some of you may know, even if they're on fairly flat ground, if there's any slope at all,
the action of animals fighting will ALWAYS drift down-hill.)Pinky likes to work the back legs
(stifles) and that left the raccoon free to work on her head and face.
By the time things were concluded she looked like she was the one that took a beating.
The entire episode was about 6-minutes long from entering the
culvert to "dead-coon." I helped with a shot from the 22-pistol (brought along for just such emergencies) during one of the brief moments when they came "out-of-holds."
Things quickly wound down to the desired end after that.
Before you give me any grief...remember, you and your dog are a team. It ain't right to let the dog struggle with the beast if you have the ability to help out in some meaningful way.
Even if it's just a well-timed kick or a stomp...Get in there and help out!
Don't be a sissy about it!
Remember, Mother Nature offers no kind of death as humane as a well-placed shot from a 22-pistol!
